Lvl. 1 | Stage 7 - Creating a Live2D File Template (for future projects)

Lesson Objective:

  1. Learn what a File Template is and why it's useful

  2. Learn how to create your own File Template

  3. Learn to create folders to organize parameters

Lesson Quests:

Quest 1: Learn what a File Template is

Quest 2: Create a File Template

Quest 3: Learn how to make folders to organize parameters

Quest 1: What is a Live2D File Template and Why do I need it?

A properly made Live2D file template will allow you to speed up your rigging process for future projects. It will increase your efficiency and help you save time, especially if you're taking on VTuber Commissions.

The template would be a premade save file that contains only the basic deformer hierarchy and parameters you need for every model.

It does not contain any rigging movements, as every model requires different things.

Quest 2: How to Create your own File Template

Over time, you will develop your own rigging style.

Parameters you like using, physics setups you prefer, or deformer hierarchy's that work best with the way you like your body to move.

Generally when creating my templates, I think about the most general deformers and parameters that will be used across all the commissioned models I receive.

A typical and very basic deformer hierarchy I use would look similar to this:

  • Master Body [Z]

    • Master Body [XY]

      • Breathe

        • Head X [Body X Movement]

          • Head Rotation [Z] (Rotation Deformer)

            • Head [XY]

              • Face [XY]

              • Ears [XY]

              • Bangs [XY]

              • Mid Hair [XY]

              • Back Hair [XY]

              • Face Parts [XY]

                • Eyebrows [XY]

                • Nose [XY]

                • Mouth [XY]

                • Eyes [XY]

          • Body XY

            • Torso [XY]

            • Neck [XY]

            • Hips [XY]

            • Arms [XY]

            • Legs [XY]

            • Clothing [XY]

This deformer hierarchy would save me from creating and centering these starting deformers. I'd simply open the file, change my canvas size, resize my "Master Body Z" deformer (which will resize everything else), import my model and then start rigging.

Quest 3: Creating Folders in the Parameter Window

You can create folders with the following button:

Name the folder and drag any of your parameters into those folders.
You can also change the color of folders by right clicking a folder and selecting "Label Color"

Example Live2D Template File

You can use this for future projects if you'd like, or change it to add things you like.
It is very basic and a good foundation to build off of, so go ahead and use it if you'd like!
